Renowned Malayalam writer and former MLA Prof MK Sanu passes away at 98

New Delhi: Prof MK Sanu, a well-known Malayalam writer and former MLA, has passed away. He was 98 years old. On July 25, he suddenly fainted at home and was affectionately called 'Sanu Maash' by Malayalees. He passed away on August 2 at 5:35 pm while receiving treatment at Amrita Hospital in Kochi. He had surgery but continued to stay in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) because of breathing problems.

Known for his skills as a writer, teacher, thinker, speaker, and former legislator, Sanu gave many people the chance to learn from him. He wrote over 40 books and received several awards, including the Ezhuthachan Award.

Sanu made a major contribution to Malayalam biographical writing. His famous book 'Changampuzha Krishna Pillai: Nakshathrangalude Snehabhajanam' is still considered an important work about the poet.

MK Sanu Wrote Books

MK Sanu also wrote 'Ekanthathayil Avadhuta' about Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, 'Nupreeta Manishi' about PK Balakrishnan, 'Astamikta Deed' about Albert Schweitzer, and 'Yukthivadi MC Joseph'. He studied the poems of Kumaran Ashan in depth. He worked as a teacher in various government schools.

First Book Of MK Sanu

MK Sanu's first book, 'Anchu Shastra Nayakanammar', was published in 1958. In 1960, he published 'Katum Vayuvum', a book of criticism. In 1984, he became the chairman of the Committee on Progressive Literature. M. K. Sanu has written many works in different literary fields like criticism, commentary, children's literature, and biography. His autobiography is titled 'Karmagati'.

He has received several awards, including the Central Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Vayalar Award, and Ezhuthachan Award. The beloved figure of Malayalam literature, known as Sanumash, stayed active in literary and social activities even in his old age.
