Setback for Jana Nayagan Makers as SC Directs Them to Madras High Court
New Delhi: The makers of actor Vijay's highly anticipated Tamil film 'Jana Nayakan' have suffered a major setback from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court refused to hear the petition filed regarding the film's release and censor certificate. The court clarified that the film's producers should approach the division bench of the Madras High Court for relief in this matter. This decision by the Supreme Court has put the film's release in jeopardy for the time being.
While refusing to hear the petition, the Supreme Court also issued an important directive to the Madras High Court. The apex court said that a decision on the petition of the producers of the Vijay-starrer film 'Jana Nayakan' should be given by January 20th. This makes it clear that the film's future now completely depends on the decision of the Madras High Court.
The film 'Jana Nayakan' was scheduled to be released in theaters on January 9th, but its release had to be postponed due to the lack of a censor certificate. Following this, the film's makers approached the Madras High Court. On January 9th, a single-judge bench of the Madras High Court directed the Censor Board to issue a certificate to the film. However, later, the division bench of the High Court put an interim stay on this order, which again stalled the film's release.
Dissatisfied with the interim order of the Madras High Court's division bench, the film's producers approached the Supreme Court. The makers argued that they were suffering huge financial losses due to the lack of a censor certificate. However, the Supreme Court refused to intervene in the matter and stated that it was a matter within the jurisdiction of the Madras High Court.
Allegations have surfaced that the film 'Jana Nayakan' contains content that offends the sentiments of the minority community. In addition, some dialogues and scenes in the film were also found objectionable by the Censor Board, due to which the certificate was not issued. When no relief was received from the Censor Board, KVN Production House filed a petition in the Madras High Court on January 6th. The filmmakers claim that the delay in the film's release could cost them approximately 500 crore rupees.
Now, all eyes are on the Madras High Court's decision, expected on January 20th, which will determine whether 'Jana Nayakan' will reach theaters or not.
