Mumbai: Music composer Amaal Mallik has issued a strong warning to social media users targeting his family amid the ongoing controversy over the missing credits for Main Hoon Hero Tera.
The composer took to X to defend his family and said he would not remain silent if online abuse continued. His latest remarks came days after he questioned Salman Khan Films over a social media post marking the anniversary of Hero, in which his contribution to the song was not credited.
Amaal said that criticism directed at him could be dealt with, but warned people against bringing his family into the controversy.
He referred to himself and his brother Armaan Malik as the next generation carrying forward their family's musical legacy. He also made it clear that he would stand by his family if social media users continued to target them.
The composer warned that he could take legal action against individuals who crossed the line, including by identifying and reporting those involved in online harassment.
The dispute centres on the song Main Hoon Hero Tera from Salman Khan's 2015 film Hero.
Amaal composed the song, while Kumaar wrote the lyrics and Armaan Malik provided vocals. Salman Khan later recorded his own version of the track for the film.
The latest controversy began after Salman Khan Films shared a social media post related to the anniversary of Hero but did not mention Amaal and Kumaar in connection with the song. Amaal publicly objected to the omission and questioned why the creators had not received proper acknowledgment.
Amaal later clarified that his criticism was not aimed personally at Salman Khan.
Instead, he said his objection was directed at Salman Khan Films over the way the song's creators were credited. He maintained that the issue was about recognising the work of musicians and ensuring that their contributions are not overlooked.
The clarification came after his earlier comments sparked discussion among Salman Khan fans and social media users.
Singer Armaan Malik has also spoken up in support of his brother during the controversy.
The dispute has brought renewed attention to the importance of music credits in Bollywood, particularly when older songs are revisited during film anniversaries or promotional campaigns.
For Amaal, however, the latest issue has now moved beyond the question of professional credit, with his latest post focusing on protecting his family from online attacks.
Amaal ended his latest message by reiterating that he would continue to defend his family.
His comments have added another chapter to the ongoing Main Hoon Hero Tera credit controversy, which began with a dispute over acknowledgment but has now expanded into a wider discussion about artists' rights, professional recognition and online trolling.
