Dhaka: Another serious case of violence against minorities has emerged in Bangladesh. Chanchal Chandra Bhowmick, a 23-year-old Hindu youth, was brutally murdered in Narsingdi district. It is alleged that unknown individuals poured petrol into a garage and set it on fire, burning Chanchal alive. This incident, reported to have occurred on Friday night, January 23, has sent shockwaves throughout the area.

Targeted While Sleeping in Garage

According to locals, Chanchal worked at a garage in the Masjid Market area near the Narsingdi Police Lines. As usual, he fell asleep inside the garage after finishing work. Late at night, an unknown person closed the garage shutter from outside, sprinkled petrol, and set it on fire. The fire spread rapidly, leaving Chanchal unable to escape.

CCTV Footage Captured

The entire fire incident is reported to have been recorded on CCTV cameras installed in the garage. The footage first shows flames outside the shutter, which then spread inside within a few moments. Eyewitnesses claim that the accused stood outside the garage for some time to ensure Chanchal's death, and then fled the scene.

Burnt Body Recovered

Local residents immediately alerted the fire service upon seeing the flames. Firefighters managed to control the fire after about an hour of intense effort. Chanchal Bhowmick's completely burned body was subsequently recovered from inside the garage.

Family Background and Pain

Chanchal was a resident of Lakshmipur village in Comilla district. He was the son of the late Khokan Chandra Bhowmick and Pramita Rani Bhowmick. After his father's death, he became the sole breadwinner of his family. His family includes an ailing mother, a disabled elder brother, and a younger brother. Chanchal had been working at the same garage for the past six years.
