New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Thursday criticised the central government over its response to the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, warning that the crisis could have serious implications for India.
In a post on the social media platform X, Gandhi said the world is entering what he described as a highly unstable and dangerous phase. According to him, the coming months could pose major geopolitical and economic challenges for many countries, including India.

The Congress leader highlighted potential risks to India’s energy supply chain amid the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Gandhi noted that a significant portion of India’s imported crude oil passes through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.

He stated that more than 40 percent of India’s imported oil travels through the narrow waterway, making the country vulnerable to disruptions if the regional conflict intensifies. Gandhi also warned that supplies of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) could face even greater challenges in the event of prolonged instability in the region.
Gandhi also referred to reports claiming that an Iranian warship was sunk in the Indian Ocean, suggesting that the impact of the conflict is moving geographically closer to India.
He argued that developments in nearby maritime zones highlight the seriousness of the current situation and could potentially affect regional security dynamics.

Despite what he described as a worsening global crisis, Gandhi alleged that there has been no clear response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the country requires strong and stable leadership during such uncertain times.
