Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah on Thursday slammed the Central Government over not showing any definite reaction on US-led strike on an independent nation. Abdullah asked the Government to issue a statement on the escalating conflict in West Asia.

Farooq Abdullah, while speaking to reporters in Katra, said "The Indian Government should be giving a statement on this. America has attacked an independent nation, and it is wrong. They did the same with Venezuela. This conflict will impact the entire world because another World War might possibly start. The Muslims are angered by this, and they are protesting."

Abdullah also condemned the US over the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayotollah Ali Khamenei.

He warned that the developments could escalate into a much larger conflict, even raising the possibility of a global war. “It may lead to something bigger, and in the end it can start a Third World War. We do not know,” he said, urging that the situation be handled with responsibility.

Referring to public sentiment over the incident, he said there was anger among Muslims but emphasised that any protests should remain peaceful. “There is anger among Muslims. Protests can take place, but they must be peaceful,” he said.

The Kashmir Valley has witnessed protests following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in alleged joint US-Israel strikes.

Responding to another question on India’s position on the issue, he said it was for the Government of India to present the country’s official stand.
