Los Angeles: A news helicopter operated by NBC Los Angeles crashed in the Chatsworth area while its crew was covering a deadly road accident, turning an ongoing breaking-news assignment into another tragedy. Three people were killed in the helicopter crash and another person was injured.
The aircraft, identified as NewsChopper 4, came down near Mason Avenue on Tuesday evening. The helicopter was in the area following an earlier collision involving a vehicle and a Metro bus.
NBC4 anchor Colleen Williams confirmed on air that the helicopter involved in the crash belonged to the station. The newsroom had been trying to establish contact with the aircraft before the crash was confirmed.

The helicopter came down in an area containing commercial properties and vehicles. Firefighters rushed to the location after the crash and worked to contain the resulting fire.
Emergency officials confirmed three deaths following the helicopter accident. Another person was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Authorities have not yet released a complete account of the people who were aboard the aircraft or provided detailed information about the injured person's condition.
A large emergency response was launched at the crash site, with firefighters and other personnel working through the wreckage and securing the surrounding area.
