Tehran: Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday asserted that the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz remains open to all nations, except those that violate Iranian territory.

In a strong response to recent remarks by US President Donald Trump, Pezeshkian said attempts to threaten Iran or “erase it from the map” reflect desperation in the face of a resilient and historically rooted nation.

Taking to X, the Iranian President wrote, “The illusion of erasing Iran from the map shows desperation against the will of a history-making nation. Threats and terror only strengthen our unity.” He further warned that Iran would firmly confront what he described as “delirious threats” on the battlefield.

Pezeshkian emphasized that while Iran remains committed to keeping vital international waterways accessible, it would not tolerate any aggression against its sovereignty. “The Strait of Hormuz is open to all except those who violate our soil,” he said, underlining Tehran’s stance amid rising geopolitical friction.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but critical maritime corridor, is one of the world’s most important oil transit routes, handling a significant portion of global crude shipments. Any disruption in the region has the potential to impact international energy markets and global economic stability.

The Iranian President’s remarks come at a time when tensions between Iran and the United States have intensified, with repeated warnings, military posturing, and strategic signalling from both sides. The situation has raised concerns among global powers over the risk of further escalation in an already volatile region.

Observers say the latest statements reflect a hardened stance from Tehran, even as diplomatic efforts continue in the background to prevent a wider conflict.
