The visit is expected to provide new direction to the growing bilateral cooperation between India and Mauritius, especially in areas such as maritime security, trade, culture and education. The high-level talks between the leaders of the two countries are expected to further strengthen the strategic partnership.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal informed in a weekly press conference that Prime Minister Ramgoolam had earlier visited India in 2014 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that during this visit, economic, cultural and strategic relations between the two countries will be further strengthened.
On the occasion of India's Independence Day last month, Mauritius Prime Minister Ramgoolam had congratulated PM Modi and the people of India and said that the relations between Mauritius and India are based on history, culture and shared values. In response to this, Prime Minister Modi described Mauritius as India's "strategic and trusted partner".
It is worth noting that earlier this year, Prime Minister Modi participated in the 57th National Day celebrations of Mauritius and met Prime Minister Ramgoolam and President Dharam Gokhool.
