New Delhi: The Russia-Ukraine war has once again become the center of discussion on the global stage. This time the situation has become very sensitive due to the sharp attitude of US President Donald Trump and the major military attack by Russia.
Trump has warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that "Putin is playing with fire," which has caused a wave of concern internationally, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Trump's sharp warning and preparation for sanctions
Donald Trump warned Putin through a social media post and said that if he were not the president, the situation in Russia would have been very bad. According to Trump, the US is considering imposing new sanctions against Russia, and a decision can be taken on this by the end of this week.
Trump's statement comes after Russia's recent major air strike on Ukraine. Trump told reporters that Putin has gone completely crazy and he needs to be stopped.
Russia's biggest attack and allegations
On May 24, Russia carried out the biggest air strike in the last three years on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. It included 9 ballistic missiles, 60 cruise missiles, and 298 drones. This attack has raised the concern of not only Ukraine but also Western countries.
Russia then claimed that Ukraine had conspired to assassinate President Vladimir Putin. According to Russian Air Force Major General Yuri Dashkin, Putin's helicopter was targeted in a Ukrainian drone attack during his visit to Kursk on May 20. However, all 46 drones were shot down, and the president remained safe.
Russia's warning
Russia has reacted strongly to Trump's statement. Former Russian President and current Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said that he fears only one bad thing—the Third World War. He expressed hope that Trump will understand this danger. This statement is being considered a serious signal for global peace.
Pressure from US lawmakers
US senators have also increased pressure on Trump to take a tough stand against Russia. Republican Senator Chuck Grassley has demanded a clear message to Putin, while Senator Lindsey Graham and Democrat Richard Blumenthal have also called for sanctions on countries that are still buying Russian oil and gas.
New front of war: Kursk
Putin recently visited Kursk, which is considered a sensitive area. It was captured by the Ukrainian army last year. Putin declared the region "part of Russia again" and ordered reconstruction there. However, the Ukrainian army claims that it is still present in that area, and the conflict continues.
