Washington: US President Donald Trump has suggested that the United States could consider sending ground troops into Iran if there is a compelling reason to do so, warning that such an operation would severely weaken Iranian military capabilities.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday, the US president said a ground invasion was not currently being discussed publicly but could be considered under certain circumstances.

“There could be possibly a ground invasion for a very good reason,” Trump said. He added that if such an action were ever taken, Iranian forces would be “so decimated that they wouldn’t be able to fight at the ground level.”

Strong Warning to Iranian Leadership

Trump also issued a sharp warning about the current state of Iran’s leadership and military structure.

According to the US president, ongoing developments in the region have significantly weakened Iranian forces. He claimed that the situation could deteriorate to the point where there may be no leadership left capable of negotiating or surrendering. “They are being decimated now,” Trump said, suggesting that the country’s leadership structure is already under severe strain.

No Interest in Negotiations

During the interaction with journalists, Trump also ruled out the possibility of entering into negotiations with Tehran at this stage.

“We are not looking to settle,” he said, adding that although Iran may want negotiations, the United States is not currently interested in pursuing a diplomatic settlement.

The remarks come amid escalating tensions in West Asia, where geopolitical instability and military developments have raised concerns about a wider regional conflict.

Regional Tensions Continue to Rise

Trump made the comments while accompanied by senior officials, including US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff and US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

The situation in the region continues to attract global attention as military and diplomatic developments unfold. Analysts warn that any direct military confrontation between the United States and Iran could have far-reaching consequences for regional stability, energy markets and global security.

For now, Washington has not announced any formal decision regarding military action, but Trump’s remarks indicate that the option remains under consideration if circumstances escalate further.
