Washington: US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States may resume military action if a deal with Iran is not finalised within the coming days. Speaking to reporters, Trump said Washington could “start dropping bombs again” if negotiations fail to produce an agreement.

He added that the current US naval blockade targeting Iranian ports would remain in place until a comprehensive deal particularly on Iran’s nuclear programme is achieved.

Blockade to Continue Amid Talks

Trump emphasised that the blockade would stay “in full force” despite ongoing diplomatic efforts. While expressing optimism that a deal could be reached, he indicated that the ceasefire may not be extended if talks collapse.

The US has maintained that its maritime operations are focused on restricting Iranian shipping and are not intended to block the Strait of Hormuz itself.

Iran Declares Strait Open, But Questions Remain

Iran announced that the Strait of Hormuz has been reopened for commercial vessels during the ongoing ceasefire period. However, officials clarified that ships must follow designated routes coordinated by Iranian authorities, suggesting continued oversight of maritime movement.

The Strait is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, handling roughly 20 per cent of global oil shipments. Any disruption or restriction has immediate implications for global markets.

Ceasefire Holds, But Tensions Persist

The developments come amid a fragile 10-day ceasefire linked to regional tensions involving Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. While the truce appears to be holding, uncertainty remains over its extension and the broader geopolitical situation.

Iranian officials have criticised the US blockade, calling it inconsistent with the ceasefire understanding. Tehran has also warned that the Strait could be closed again if restrictions on its ports and vessels continue.

Strategic and Economic Stakes High

The evolving situation underscores the high stakes surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a vital artery for global energy supply. Conflicting signals from Washington and Tehran have raised concerns about shipping security and the stability of oil markets.

With negotiations ongoing and military options still on the table, the coming days are expected to be crucial in determining whether tensions escalate or move toward resolution.
