Court sentences Prajwal Revanna to life, orders Rs 11 lakh compensation to victim

The court has sentenced him to life imprisonment in two cases and ordered a total fine of Rs 11lakh in other cases. All the money will go to the victim as compensation. The punishment takes effect today.

Bengaluru: Former Janata Dal Secular (JDS) MP and grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda Prajwal Revanna has been sentenced to life imprisonment in a rape case by a special court in Karnataka. The court convicted him on 1 August for serious charges including rape, sexual abuse, intimidation, and digital crimes.

Now, the court has sentenced him to life imprisonment in two cases and ordered a total fine of Rs 11lakh in other cases. All the money will go to the victim as compensation. The punishment takes effect today.

Saree Used As Evidence In Case

The saree was shown in court as key evidence in the rape case against Prajwal Revanna. It was claimed that the former MP raped the domestic helper twice.

The victim also recorded a video of the incident and kept the saree as proof. During the investigation, sperm traces were found on the saree, which made the case stronger. The saree was presented as conclusive evidence in court.

During Proceedings

As soon as the hearing started, the public prosecutor, BN Jagadish, gave his arguments to the court. He said, "This is a big case. The accused is not an ordinary person but a leader, so the punishment should be strong enough to teach society a lesson. " The lawyer asked for life imprisonment for Prajwal.

What Revanna Said?

When the court asked Prajwal Revanna if he had anything to say, he stayed quiet.He said, "I was a well-known person in Hassan. No one has accused me. Just six days before the election, a video became popular online."

Prajwal Revanna also questioned the victim while trying to save himself. He said she had never complained to anyone before. Revanna appealed to the court to give him the minimum sentence after being convicted.

Trial Completed In Seven Months

The investigation was led by CID Inspector Shobha and her team. The trial started on December 31, 2024, and the court listened to the testimonies of 23 witnesses. The court also looked at the forensic reports from the video clips and the spot inspection reports. The trial ended in seven months, and after hearing both sides' arguments, Special Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhatt decided to announce his ruling later.
