Justice Bhosale Committee submits report on Ghatkopar hoarding collapse
Mumbai: The Justice Dilip Bhosale committee has submitted its report to the Deputy Chief Minister and Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
After receiving the sealed report on collapsed hoarding, CM Devendra Fadnavis has forwarded the sealed report to the Home Department for further action. The Justice Dilip Bhosale committee stated that along with the investigation, some remedial measures have also been suggested to the government.
The committee was constituted to investigate the accident of the giant hoarding (advertising board) falling in the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai, which had injured more than 70 people and killed 16 people.
Background of the incident
A giant hoarding fell in the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai on May 13, 2024, killing 16 people and injuring more than 70 people due to a severe storm. Contrary to the rules, the hoarding was very large. Therefore, questions were raised about its approval after the incident.
The Maharashtra government, after the accident, constituted an inquiry committee headed by former Chief Justice Justice Dilip Bhosale. The committee was formed and tasked with finding out the causes of the accident, assigning responsibility, and making suggestions to prevent such incidents in the future.
Highlights of the report
The committee has thoroughly investigated the causes of the accident and the aspects of negligence.
The report recommends action against the guilty persons/institutions.
Corrective measures have been suggested for the safety of hoardings, compliance with rules, and strengthening the monitoring process of the Municipal Corporation.
Now this report will be processed for further action after a detailed investigation by the Home Department.
Further action
The report has been sent to the Home Department by CM Fadnavis in a sealed state. It is likely that soon its investigation will be completed and legal action will be taken against the people responsible for the accident.
Also, new guidelines may be issued by the government to tighten the rules of hoarding and strengthen the monitoring mechanism.
This accident has once again highlighted the problem of illegal and unsafe hoardings in Mumbai, after which the administration also took action to remove many illegal hoardings.
