Noida: Tensions flared in Noida as thousands of industrial workers staged a massive protest against low wages and long working hours, bringing key routes in the city to a standstill over the past two days.

The unrest stems from allegations that workers employed at a global export company in the Phase-2 industrial area are being paid just Rs 9,000 per month despite working 12-hour daily shifts. Frustrated by stagnant wages and what they describe as exploitative conditions, nearly 8,000 workers have taken to the streets demanding immediate pay hikes.

“We work 12 hours every single day, yet we barely earn enough to survive,” said one worker, expressing anguish over the inability to support a family on such income. “We have been in talks with the company for a long time, but they refuse to increase wages. Instead, we are told to either accept the conditions or leave.”

Protesters have blocked several major roads, including routes in Kulesra, Sector-82, Phase-2, and the Bhangel Elevated Road, severely disrupting traffic movement between Greater Noida, Noida, and Delhi. Commuters have faced long delays, with congestion reported across key arterial roads.

Despite the presence of police and administrative officials, no breakthrough has been achieved so far. Authorities are attempting to manage the situation, but workers remain firm in their stance, vowing to continue their sit-in protest until their demands are met.

“We have been forced onto the streets. We will not move until we get justice,” protesters said, signaling that the agitation may continue if negotiations fail.

The situation remains tense, with ongoing disruptions affecting thousands of daily commuters and raising concerns about labor conditions in the region’s industrial hubs.
