New Delhi: A major tragedy struck Abu Dhabi when debris from missiles intercepted in mid-air crashed down onto a street below. The incident resulted in the deaths of one Indian and one Pakistani national, while three others sustained injuries.
This event occurred at a time when tensions in West Asia—specifically between Iran and the US-Israel axis—are continuously escalating, and the threat of missile attacks remains persistent.
The UAE's air defense system successfully destroyed a ballistic missile while it was still in the air. However, fragments of the missile fell to the ground, causing casualties among people present on the street below.
The incident affected individuals from various nations, including Indians, Pakistanis, and other foreign nationals. The condition of the injured is reported to range from critical to stable.
The Indian Embassy in the UAE has expressed deep sorrow over the incident. The Embassy conveyed its condolences to the families of the deceased and stated that it is working in coordination with local authorities to provide every possible assistance.
The embassy also remains in constant contact to provide aid and support to those who were injured.

According to the UAE's Ministry of Defense, on March 26 alone, the air defense system intercepted 15 ballistic missiles and 11 drones.
Looking at the broader conflict, hundreds of missiles and thousands of drones have been launched to date—all of which have been successfully intercepted. Despite these successful interceptions, incidents involving falling debris continue to pose a significant threat to the public.
Following this incident, the total death toll has risen to 11. Additionally, 169 people have been injured, including citizens from various countries.
This underscores the fact that the impact of the conflict is not limited solely to military installations; rather, the lives of ordinary civilians are also at risk.
