Ambala: A four-year-old boy fell into a 220-foot-deep borewell in Haryana's Ambala district on Tuesday morning, prompting a large-scale rescue operation involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the Army.
The child, identified as Nirbhay, reportedly fell into the open borewell in Dhanaura village under Barara while accompanying his father to the family's agricultural field.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 6.30 am when Nirbhay had gone with his father, Manjit, to deliver food to his grandfather, Karnail Singh, who was working in the fields.
Family members said the child was playing near the borewell and was allegedly throwing soil into it. The area around the borewell was reportedly wet, and he is believed to have slipped while looking inside.
Rescue Teams Rush to the Spot
After receiving information about the incident, Ambala Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar and other administrative officials reached the site to monitor the rescue operation.
Officials said the borewell is approximately 220 feet deep with a diameter of about nine inches. NDRF personnel arrived with specialised rescue equipment, while SDRF and Army teams also joined the operation.
Family Alerted Authorities
The child's father and grandfather, along with local residents, initially tried to rescue him before informing authorities when their efforts proved unsuccessful.
Rescue operations were still underway at the time of writing, with officials continuing efforts to safely bring the child out of the borewell.
