The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released its preliminary report on the investigation of the fatal crash of Air India’s Boeing 787-8 aircraft in Ahmedabad. According to the report, the plane crashed about 30 seconds after takeoff.

Ahmedabad: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has released its preliminary report in the investigation of the fatal crash of Air India's Boeing 787-8 aircraft in Ahmedabad on 12 June, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The report states that no recommended action has been taken against the aircraft and its GEnx-1B engine operators in the initial phase of the investigation. There were a total of 242 people on board the crashed plane, which was flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick.

According to the report, the plane crashed about 30 seconds after takeoff. The investigation revealed that the fuel control switches of the aircraft's engines were turned off within about a second of takeoff, which became the main cause of the accident. Due to this, the plane lost control and crashed into a medical hostel complex.

Fuel Quality Investigated

AAIB also investigated the quality of fuel related to this accident. Samples of the fuel used in the plane were sent to the DGCA laboratory. After the DGCA tested the sample, they found the fuel was satisfactory.

Also, the sending of MAYDAY call by the pilot of the plane was also investigated. During the interrogation of the Air Traffic Controller (ATCO), it was revealed that he did not receive information about the call sign but saw the plane falling outside the airport boundary at the time of the accident and started emergency response.

Preservation Of Debris

The entire site's activities have been completed through drones, photography and videography to investigate the wreckage of the plane crash. The debris has been kept in a safe area near the airport. Both the engines of the crashed plane have been separated from the debris and kept in a hangar at the airport so that they can be safe for further investigation. The team has also identified and isolated some important aircraft components.

Data Analysis

AAIB said that the analysis of data obtained from the Advanced Airborne Flight Recorder (EAFR) is ongoing, which will help in understanding the reasons behind the accident. The investigation team has also collected the statements of witnesses of the accident and the surviving passenger. All this information will prove to be important in the next phase of the investigation.

Indications Of Further Action

AAIB has clarified that the investigation is still underway and the investigation teams are reviewing additional evidence, records and information received from all stakeholders. Necessary action will be taken in the future only after the investigation is completed.
