Dibrugarh: The construction of the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) being built on NH-127 in Assam is almost complete, and it will be fully developed by July 31. 99 percent of its work has already been completed, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
This four-lane highway can increase the strategic power of Northeast India manifold. Since this area is located near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), there is always a threat from China. This facility developed on this new national highway built in Moran in the Dibrugarh district of Assam will add to the strength of the Indian Air Force and the Army.
Emergency Landing Facility of NH-127
This highway starts from NH-27 near Nagaon and connects Samaguri to NH-715 near Jakhalabandha. While this road will make the travel of the local people easier, it will be a major strategic achievement for the Indian Armed Forces. Recently, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected this project and informed us how important this area can prove to be in the future.

The facility will be operational from October
According to NHIDCL and Air Force officials, this 4.2 km long highway will be fully operational from October. It has been designed keeping in mind both civilian and military needs.
Landing of fighter jets and big aircraft possible
This ELF of Moran is designed in such a way that fighter jets like Rafale, Tejas, and Sukhoi-30, as well as heavy aircraft like C-130 Hercules and Antonov AN-32, can also land here in an emergency. In case of crisis, it can be converted into an airstrip by stopping the general traffic.
Preparations to keep an eye on China's activities
The air distance of LAC from Assam is only 200-300 km, so this facility in Moran is of great strategic importance. Chief Minister Sarma has also been informed about the plan to build two more ELFs in the state—one between Barma and Tihu and the other at Shankardev Nagar in Hojai district.
Helipad network also planned
Sarma has proposed to build helipads every 10 to 50 km in the four-lane corridor from Numaligarh to Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. These helipads will prove useful in emergency operations and disaster relief work and will also support the armed forces in wartime.
