New Delhi: In a major political development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has decided to continue his membership in the Upper House of Parliament, despite internal party reshuffles that have fueled speculation about his future role.

According to Dynamite News, Raghav Chadha will not voluntarily resign at this stage. Earlier rumors suggested he might quit the party following internal differences, but sources now indicate that he has revised his approach. Rather than stepping down on his own, Chadha intends to leave the decision about his future entirely to the party leadership, effectively daring the high command to take any disciplinary action against him.

Direct Message to Leadership: ‘Silenced, But Not Defeated’

Over the past 24 hours, Chadha released two videos that delivered a pointed critique of the party leadership, implicitly targeting Arvind Kejriwal. In his second video, released this morning, he stated:

"I have been silenced, but do not mistake my silence for defeat. I am a river that, when the time is right, will turn into a surging flood."

Although he did not explicitly name Kejriwal, the reference was clear. Chadha also raised a critical question: Is raising public issues in Parliament a crime worthy of punishment by stripping an MP of their Deputy Leader position?

Popularity and Publicity: A Double-Edged Sword

Internal party discussions suggest that the leadership grew uneasy with Chadha’s rising popularity in the Rajya Sabha and the media attention his incisive questions were generating. In recent weeks, he had raised issues directly affecting citizens, including airfares, gig workers’ rights, and mobile recharge tariffs. Shortly after, the party wrote to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, removing him from the Deputy Leader post and appointing Ashok Mittal as his replacement. The party also recommended that Chadha be denied speaking time from its allotted quota - an unprecedented move highlighting the depth of internal friction.

The Liquor Policy Case and Medical Leave: Origins of the Rift

The friction between Chadha and the party leadership reportedly dates back to March 2024. At the time of Kejriwal's arrest in connection with the liquor policy case, Chadha traveled abroad citing medical reasons. Even after Kejriwal’s release, Chadha remained distant, skipping major rallies and maintaining a conspicuous silence. Recently, when a Delhi court acquitted Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, Chadha continued his reserved stance.

Rumors indicate that Chadha, a Chartered Accountant by profession, possesses critical party documents and financial records, which could further intensify the internal conflict if the standoff continues.

Ashok Mittal Seeks to Downplay Tensions

Newly appointed Deputy Leader Ashok Mittal has described the changes as a routine organizational decision, assuring that every party member, including Chadha, will have opportunities to contribute in due course.

However, Chadha’s use of a symbolic ‘Evil Eye’ emoji and his warning of turning into a ‘deluge’ suggest that the storm within AAP is far from over, signaling a tense period ahead for the party leadership.
