New Delhi: Relief to industrial and commercial LPG consumers, the Centre on Thursday removed all sectoral restrictions on the supply of non-domestic packed LPG and restored supplies to the levels prevailing before the West Asia crisis.
The government has also relaxed the supply of bulk LPG, which had been suspended at the onset of the crisis. Bulk LPG supply will now be allowed up to 50% of pre-crisis consumption levels, providing significant relief to commercial and industrial consumers.
Restrictions Lifted After Supply Improves
The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas said that during the West Asia crisis, orders were issued under the Essential Commodities Act requiring C3-C4 streams to be used exclusively for LPG production. These streams had been diverted from petrochemical and other downstream uses to ensure adequate LPG availability.
The latest decision comes after an improvement in indigenous LPG production and projected availability of imported LPG cargoes. The Centre has now decided to reduce the diversion of C3-C4 streams to the LPG pool.
Domestic LPG Availability To Remain Protected
The Ministry said enhanced allocation of C3-C4 streams for non-LPG uses will be implemented while ensuring that domestic LPG availability remains unaffected.
It also said aggregate indigenous LPG production will be maintained at not less than 40 TMT per day. The decision is expected to ease pressure on businesses, industrial units, hotels, restaurants and other commercial users dependent on LPG.
Relief For Industry After West Asia Crisis
Commercial and industrial consumers had faced restrictions due to supply concerns triggered by the West Asia crisis. With supplies improving, the government’s latest decision is expected to help affected sectors resume normal operations.
The move signals a gradual normalisation of LPG supply management while keeping household LPG availability as a priority.
