New Delhi: The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar disputed the accusations made by Rahul Gandhi the leader of the Congress. Showing a PowerPoint with data not from the Election Commission does not make lies true the CEC said rejecting the opposition leaders claims in the Lok Sabha.

He said needs to back up his charges with evidence. Rahul Gandhi was admonished by CEC to either file an affidavit or offer an apology to the country. No third option exists. The accusations will be deemed without merit he continued if an affidavit is not filed within seven days.

Regarding the Bihar SIR Process alleged actions. Some have asked why Bihar's Special Intensive Report (SIR) procedure is moving so swiftly. According to Gyanesh Kumar it is the Election Commissions legal duty to amend the voter list prior to elections.

Prior to each election the voter list must be updated in accordance with the Representation of the People Act. By July 20 the process was nearly finished having started on June 24.

The Commission is just doing its job and reaching out to over seven crore voters in Bihar the CEC stressed. pertaining to duplicate EPIC cards. In response to inquiries regarding duplicate voter ID cards (EPIC) the CEC stated that there are two different kinds of duplicates.

In one instance two distinct people from different states share the same EPIC number. When this problem arose in March 2025 the Commission identified roughly three lakh of these cases nationwide and changed the EPIC numbers to reflect them. A person has multiple EPICs if their name appears on several voter lists with distinct EPIC numbers. This is the second type. Additionally this problem is being addressed. The same name appears on several entries.

An online system for centrally managing voter data did not exist prior to 2003. This led to the addition of many peoples names in several places after they relocated. The Election Commissions website now allows voters to choose and eliminate duplicate entries.

In addition to reassuring voters that the Commission is fully behind them the CEC cautioned that hurried action may inadvertently remove someone elses name or a voters name. Keeping the voter list accurate and holding free and fair elections are two goals that the Election Commission is committed to.
