Srinagar:  Senior National Conference leader and Baramulla MLA Javid Hassan Baig has reaffirmed his loyalty to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the party, saying political positions are temporary and commitment to the organisation must remain firm.

Speaking about the recent Cabinet expansion and reported dissatisfaction among some party leaders over the allocation of ministerial positions, Baig said the decision rested with Omar Abdullah, who was best placed to assess the government's needs and make the appropriate choices.

“The Cabinet decision is that of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. He understands these decisions better than anyone else, and I have nothing to say about the matter concerning MLA Abdul Majeed Larmi and MLA Mubarak Gul,” Baig said, declining to comment on the reported discontent.

Emphasising his commitment to the party leadership, Baig said the absence of a ministerial position would not affect his association with Omar Abdullah or the National Conference.

“Till my last breath, I will never leave Omar Abdullah and the National Conference, whatever the decision may be. Chairs come and go, but loyalty matters,” he said.

His remarks come amid reports of discontent within sections of the National Conference following the Cabinet expansion, with questions being raised over the exclusion of some senior leaders from ministerial positions.

Without commenting on the individual grievances of Abdul Majeed Larmi and Mubarak Gul, Baig maintained that Cabinet decisions fell within the Chief Minister's remit and should be viewed in the wider context of governance and political responsibility.

He also expressed hope that the newly inducted ministers would work with dedication and urgency to address public concerns and fulfil the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Baig said the Cabinet should prioritise public welfare, effective governance and the resolution of issues affecting ordinary citizens. He added that the new ministers would ultimately be judged by their work on the ground.

Baig Appeals to Aga Ruhullah to Reconsider Exit

Commenting on reports that Srinagar MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi intends to resign from the National Conference and his parliamentary seat, Baig urged him to reconsider and explore ways to resolve his differences with the party leadership.

He expressed hope that Ruhullah would take a considered decision in the larger political interest of the party and its supporters rather than severing his association with the National Conference.

“I hope Aga Ruhullah Mehdi will take a wise decision. Whatever differences exist between him and the party, I hope they can be resolved and that he will choose to remain with the National Conference,” Baig said.

In a direct appeal to the Srinagar MP, he stressed the importance of continuing their political journey together and resolving disagreements through dialogue.

“I want this message to reach Aga Ruhullah Mehdi: We should travel this journey together rather than take a decision to leave the party. Differences can be resolved, and I hope a way forward will emerge,” he said.

Ruhullah's reported plan to resign has added to the political discussion surrounding the National Conference as the party deals with questions arising from the recent Cabinet expansion.

Baig's appeal reflects his preference for reconciliation, urging party leaders to preserve their political association despite disagreements.

Focus on Loyalty and Public Accountability

Baig's remarks underline his view that disagreements over leadership decisions should not automatically lead to a break in longstanding political relationships. He has called for loyalty to extend beyond the pursuit of ministerial positions and for differences to be resolved through dialogue.

At the same time, his expectations from the newly inducted ministers place the focus on governance, public service and accountability.

The National Conference now faces the task of addressing internal concerns while ensuring that the government remains focused on its commitments to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
