New Delhi: After China banned the shipment of rare earth minerals, there has been a stir in the electronic and automobile sectors all over the world. Due to repeated rejection of India's shipment, the country's domestic companies are facing a huge shortage of raw materials. But now India has found a solution to this problem in the form of Australia, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Malini Dutt, Trade and Investment Commissioner of the New South Wales Government of Australia, recently confirmed during the India Energy Store Week (IESW) 2025 that India and Australia are in talks regarding rare earth minerals. Malini said that rare earth blocks are available in Australia, and India has a good chance to acquire them.

Copper import from Australia

Along with rare earth minerals, India is now also eyeing importing copper from Australia. Both the private and public sectors of India have shown interest in Australia's copper blocks. Malini Dutt said that big companies like Adani have invested in this sector, and the presence of smelters makes this partnership even more impressive for India.

17 types of rare earth minerals

Rare earth minerals contain 17 types of elements, which are very important for electronics, batteries, magnets, and automobile industries. Although these minerals are also present in other countries, importing from there proves to be expensive for India.

China's hold and global crisis

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), China accounts for 61% of global rare earth production, but it controls 92% of global supply. Despite America and Europe getting partial relief, India has not yet gotten any relief from China. It is worth noting that China had imposed this ban in response to the 146% tariff imposed by US President Donald Trump, which also affected other countries, including India.
