New Delhi: The investigation into the deadly car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort has revealed crucial details about the route taken by the white Hyundai i20 that carried the explosives. According to Delhi Police, the car entered the national capital from Haryana’s Faridabad through the Badarpur border early Monday morning before making its way into Old Delhi. The car was tracked via dozens of CCTV cameras installed along the route.

The mapping shows that the vehicle entered Delhi at 8:13 am, passed through the Okhla Industrial Area around 8:20 am, and reached the parking area of Sunehri Masjid near Red Fort at 3:19 pm. It remained parked there for nearly three hours before leaving at 6:28 pm, moments before the fatal explosion that killed nine people and injured over 20 others.

How The Red Fort Blast Was Planned

Police believe that the attack was orchestrated by Dr Umar Mohammad, a medical professional from Pulwama, along with two associates. The trio allegedly used Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO), a powerful explosive compound, to execute the blast.

Investigators suspect that Umar detonated the explosive after learning that two of his associates, Dr Mujammil Shakeel and Dr Adil Rather, had been arrested days earlier in Faridabad with 2,900 kilograms of explosive material. The arrests are believed to have triggered Umar to act in panic and carry out the attack earlier than planned.

Suspect Waited Inside The Car For Three Hours

CCTV footage shows the i20 car parked near Sunehri Masjid for three hours, during which Umar did not step out even once. Officials suspect he was awaiting instructions or confirmation from handlers before proceeding with the attack.

The car was later seen leaving the parking area and moving toward central Delhi. The blast occurred at a traffic signal near the Red Fort, indicating a deliberate attempt to target a crowded area.

Car Ownership And Network Trail

Investigators have also traced the ownership history of the i20. The vehicle was initially registered to a man named Aamir, who sold it to Devendra, and later to Tariq from Pulwama. Tariq was detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police for questioning, and subsequent evidence confirmed that the car was later handed over to Umar Mohammad.

Police are now conducting forensic and digital analysis to identify the source of the explosives and reconstruct the communications between the suspects.

Wider Investigation Links To Faridabad Module

The Red Fort explosion is now believed to be connected to a larger “white-collar” terror module operating between Faridabad, Pulwama, and Delhi. Security agencies suspect that the group was being remotely managed by handlers based in Pakistan.

A massive joint operation is underway involving the Delhi Police Special Cell, National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), Intelligence Bureau (IB), Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Anti-Terror Squads of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

Over 13 individuals have been placed under surveillance and are currently being interrogated as part of the investigation.

Capital On High Alert

Security has been heightened across Delhi, with special attention on heritage and government buildings. The area around the Red Fort remains sealed, and patrols have been intensified across central and northern districts.

Officials have described the Red Fort explosion as one of the most serious security breaches in recent years, with early evidence pointing to an organised and well-funded network.
