New Delhi: The number of districts in Delhi, the capital of India, has been increased to 13 as part of a major administrative reform. Previously, Delhi had only 11 districts. The aim of this change is to streamline governance and make administrative functions more efficient.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that this reorganization will align the boundaries of revenue districts and municipal corporations, leading to better services for citizens and increased transparency in administrative work.
The Delhi Cabinet approved the creation of 13 new revenue districts on December 12, 2025. Under this initiative, the new districts have been formed based on the areas covered by the 12 MCD zones, NDMC, and the Delhi Cantonment Board.
The main objective is to bring uniformity to administrative functions and improve regional distribution. Now, each district's area will correspond to the area of the municipal corporation, enabling better resource management.
Delhi has been divided into various parts. South-East includes Jangpura, Kalkaji, and Badarpur. Old Delhi comprises Sadar Bazaar and Chandni Chowk. North Delhi districts include Burari, Adarsh Nagar, and Badli.
New Delhi includes Delhi Cantonment and New Delhi districts. Central Delhi districts include Patel Nagar and Karol Bagh. Central North includes Shakarpur Basti, Shalimar Bagh, and Model Town.

South-West includes Najafgarh, Matiyala, Dwarka, and Bijwasan. Outer North includes Mundka, Narela, and Bawana districts. North-West includes Kirari, Nangloi Jat, and Rohini.
North-East includes Karawal Nagar, Gokulpuri, Yamuna Vihar, and Shahdara. East Delhi includes Gandhi Nagar, Vishwas Nagar, and Patparganj. South includes Chhatarpur, Malviya Nagar, Delhi, and Mehrauli. West Delhi includes Vikaspuri, Janakpuri, and Rajouri Garden districts.

This new district reorganization will provide citizens with easier access to government services. This will increase transparency and efficiency in administrative functions.
