New Delhi: Delhi Police has initiated action against social media posts allegedly containing abusive remarks targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Union ministers during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest at Jantar Mantar. Officials said notices have been issued to multiple social media platforms seeking the removal of such content under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.

According to police sources, authorities are reviewing material shared during and after the demonstrations to determine whether any posts violate existing laws or have the potential to disturb public order.

Monitoring Exercise Underway

The Delhi Police's Social Media Monitoring Team is conducting a detailed examination of content circulated across various platforms. Officials said the review is aimed at identifying posts considered objectionable or abusive, following which platforms may be directed to remove them.

Police have not yet disclosed which accounts or platforms are under scrutiny.

Pakistan-Based Misinformation Under Scanner

Officials also reiterated that hundreds of Pakistan-based social media accounts had earlier been identified for allegedly spreading misinformation related to the protests. According to Delhi Police, these accounts were part of a coordinated online campaign similar to those observed during previous misinformation operations.

Supreme Court PIL Seeks Independent Probe

The latest development comes as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the registration of FIRs against Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel over allegations of excessive force during the student protests.

The petition seeks an independent investigation into claims of lathi-charge, tear gas use, unlawful detention and assaults on protesters. It also requests preservation of CCTV footage, body-camera recordings and other electronic evidence, along with compensation for those found to have suffered injuries.

As investigations continue on both the online and legal fronts, the CJP protest remains at the centre of national attention.
