New Delhi: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will investigate an incident at Mumbai airport where an Indigo Airbus A321 aircraft’s tail hit the runway during landing. Officials monitoring the situation shared this information on Saturday.

A senior DGCA official said, “We will conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. A formal order will be issued soon.” According to the officials, the flight involved was 6E 1060, arriving in Mumbai from Bangkok and operated by an A321 Neo aircraft. The tail of the plane struck the runway at 3:06 AM while landing on runway 27.

The initial investigation suggests that bad weather caused the incident. Fortunately, no passengers or crew members were injured during this event.

An Indigo spokesperson explained, “On August 16, 2025, the tail of our Airbus A321 aircraft touched the runway during a low-altitude go-around caused by poor weather. After this, the plane made another landing attempt and landed safely.” The spokesperson added that the aircraft will be inspected and repaired as per standard procedures, and it will only fly again after receiving regulatory approval.

He further said, “The safety of our passengers, crew, and aircraft is our highest priority at Indigo. We are making every effort to minimize any impact caused by this incident.”

An official also revealed that the aircraft has been grounded after the incident, and DGCA has been informed. However, neither the airline nor the flight crew reported this incident to the Air Traffic Control (ATC).

This incident highlights the challenges pilots face during adverse weather conditions and the importance of safety checks and investigations. The DGCA’s investigation will focus on understanding the exact cause of the tail strike and ensuring such events are prevented in the future.

Passengers are advised that flights are operating normally, and Indigo continues to prioritize safety during all operations. The investigation results will be closely watched by the aviation industry and passengers alike.
