New Delhi: An unscheduled Union Cabinet meeting was held in Parliament House today for nearly 90 minutes. Sources said that the cabinet reviewed yesterday’s voting and the defeat of the Women’s Bill.

Strategy Against Opposition

It was decided to portray the Opposition as anti-women for its vote against the Constitutional Amendment, and an extensive pan-India campaign was readied to drive home this message.

Discussion on 33% Reservation

The cabinet felt that 33% reservation for women on the existing 543 seats is not possible, which was demanded by the Opposition while opposing the Bill.

The cabinet started its meeting after both Houses were adjourned sine die at 11:30 am. Sources said there was no discussion on bringing any revised bills. The cabinet also focused on the Opposition’s demand that the Delimitation Bill be referred to a Standing or Select Committee.

Focus on Upcoming Elections

One senior minister suggested that the Opposition be exposed in the run-up to election campaigns in both Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Another minister said that the Opposition’s stance against women’s political empowerment must be conveyed to the masses.

Nationwide Campaign Plan

Door-to-door campaigns, along with the use of social media and other communication channels, including public meetings, are set to be undertaken in the coming week, sources said.
