Patna: The first phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 has begun today with polling taking place in 121 constituencies spread across 18 districts. Voting started at 7 AM and will continue till evening under tight security arrangements. The Election Commission has assured that every step has been taken to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.

According to officials, more than 2.5 crore registered voters will decide the fate of hundreds of candidates contesting in this crucial phase. As polling got underway, long queues were seen outside several booths with citizens turning out early to exercise their democratic right.

Voters Urged to Check Names Before Voting

Before heading to the polling station, the Election Commission has advised voters to confirm that their names are listed in the official voter list. Those whose names do not appear on the list will not be allowed to vote.

To make this process easier, voters can verify their details online from the comfort of their homes. The Voter Helpline App, available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, allows users to check their registration by entering their name, father’s name, and assembly constituency. Once submitted, the app displays the complete voter information including the assigned polling booth.

Alternatively, voters can visit the National Voters Service Portal (www.nvsp.in) to check their name, voter ID number, and booth details instantly.

Documents Accepted for Voting

If a voter does not possess an official voter ID card, they can still participate in the election by presenting any one of the 12 identity documents approved by the Election Commission.

These include a passport, driving license, PAN card, Aadhaar card, government or PSU employee ID, bank or post office passbook, MGNREGA job card, health insurance card issued by the Labour Ministry, photo pension card, NPR smart card, official ID card issued by MPs, MLAs or MLCs, and the UDID card for persons with disabilities.

This initiative ensures that every eligible citizen can vote even if their voter ID is misplaced or not yet issued.

Security and Accessibility Measures

The Election Commission has implemented extensive security measures across all polling centers. Every booth is under CCTV surveillance and paramilitary forces have been deployed in sensitive regions to maintain law and order. Additional units have been assigned in vulnerable areas to prevent any disruption.

Special attention has been given to women and differently abled voters. Pink booths, managed entirely by female staff, have been established to encourage greater participation of women. Furthermore, wheelchair assistance and other accessibility services are available for voters with disabilities.

Officials have emphasized that the entire process aims to strengthen voter confidence and ensure transparent conduct throughout the polling phase.

As Bihar votes today, the spotlight remains on voter enthusiasm, peaceful polling, and the Election Commission’s efforts to make every vote count in shaping the future of the state.
