Landslide wreaks havoc in Himachal
Shimla: Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh Saraj area has caused widespread disruption. Landslides and rockfalls have blocked roads, and many villages are without electricity, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
In the Janjheli area, 38 roads are currently closed, including some main roads. The Public Works Department (PWD) has only six JCB machines to clear the roads, but they are not working efficiently due to a lack of fuel and staff.
Many villages have been without electricity for over 48 hours, affecting drinking water supply and mobile networks. Out of 240 transformers, 98 are currently out of order.
Tehsildar Rajat Sethi has instructed the PWD to restore the roads quickly. The administration is working to resolve the situation, but the lack of resources is hindering the efforts.
Locals are frustrated with the slow response to the crisis. For example, the Lambathach-Kalhani road was blocked on Sunday night, and it took six hours for the machines to arrive and start clearing the road.
The situation is challenging, but the administration is trying to restore normalcy in the affected areas.
Apart from this, rain has caused havoc in the hilly states. Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri highways remained closed for hours due to landslides in Uttarakhand. About 3,000 devotees were stranded due to landslides in Chamoli and the administration is busy opening the highway.
Seven people have died due to cloudburst in Dharamshala and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh and one body was recovered in Sainj Valley. As many as 12 people are missing after a vehicle was swept away in the Alaknanda river in Rudraprayag, out of which four bodies were found. NDRF and SDRF teams are engaged in rescue work.
Heavy rains are falling in the mountainous areas of Himachal Pradesh. Due to this, incidents of flash floods and sudden strong flow in drains are being reported at many places. In Lahaul, while saving an injured person in Jahlama Nala, I myself got swept away, but thank God I came out safely. In another incident, the temporary bridge built to cross the river for Baladhi village was washed away due to the water released by the NHPC dam in the Parvati river of Manikaran valley. Local people used this bridge for commuting.
