IndiGo's services are still not back on track
New Delhi: Flight services for IndiGo, the country's largest airline, were still not fully normal on Monday (December 8, 2025).
The situation is gradually improving, but the problem of cancellations and delays has not completely ended. The company stated that the remaining refunds for flights cancelled until December 15, 2025, are in process. To date, passengers have been refunded ₹827 crore.
The Aviation Ministry and DGCA are now conducting a direct investigation into the matter. According to sources, officials will meet with IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers at 11 a.m. on Tuesday (December 9, 2025).
Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu blames IndiGo’s internal lapses for Nationwide disruptions
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu will make an official statement on the issue in the Lok Sabha at 12 noon on the same day. This clearly indicates that the government considers this a serious operational failure.
IndiGo stated that the situation is gradually improving. More than 1,800 flights were operated on Monday, compared to only 1,650 on December 7th.
Disruption in Indigo flights across the country
To alleviate passenger inconvenience, the airline has provided 9,500 hotel rooms, over 10,000 cabs and 4,500 bags delivered to passengers. The remaining bags are targeted to be delivered within the next 36 hours. The airline is assisting over 200,000 passengers daily.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the government is taking the matter very seriously. He clarified that the problem arose due to internal operational deficiencies at IndiGo, including flaws in the crew rostering system and planning.
According to him, the Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) rules were implemented as per a pre-established procedure. It was also reported that IndiGo had sought clarification on the rules but never indicated any such problem.
The IndiGo crisis is not completely over yet, but recovery is underway. The government's investigation and potential action could set a new standard for the airline sector in the coming days.
