New Delhi: As soon as July begins, taxpayers across the country start preparing to file income tax returns (ITR). But in 2025, a strange question on social media is becoming increasingly viral—will the refund be given quickly after filling ITR after July 17?
This question has confused many taxpayers. Some believe that the technical process of the Income Tax Department has intensified so that the refund can come soon by filling the return at any time. At the same time, many people are claiming that after July 17, those who file returns get priority.
What do experts say?
According to Financial Affairs expert and Chartered Accountant Niyati Shah, the claim is completely rumored and has no basis. According to him, the sooner the ITR filing is done, the better. The ITR filed with correct details in May or June usually processes in 10 to 20 days. But as the deadline approaches, the pressure on the Income Tax Department increases, which can delay processing.”
Advantage of early filing
If you have filed ITR by July 15 and have also done e-verification on time, then it will not take much time to get the refund. In such cases, a refund can come to your bank account within 10 to 17 days. However, if there is any error in the documents or the bank details are wrong, then the Income Tax Department has to investigate. In such cases, it may take 4–5 weeks or more time to get a refund.
Importance of e-verification
After filing the ITR, it is mandatory to do e-verification. If this process is not completed within the stipulated time (30 days), your filing is not considered valid, and the refund may be delayed.
