New Delhi: The death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on Wednesday morning has sent shockwaves across the country.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a strong statement on the incident, expressing apprehension over a possible conspiracy and questioning the overall security environment in the country.

Speaking on the matter, Mamata Banerjee said she had recently come across information-circulating on social media and among political circles-that Ajit Pawar was considering leaving the BJP.

“What happened today is extremely tragic and disturbing,” she said, adding that the circumstances surrounding the crash raise serious questions.

The West Bengal Chief Minister demanded that the investigation into Ajit Pawar’s death be conducted under the supervision of the Supreme Court to ensure transparency and impartiality. “In such serious incidents, a conspiracy angle cannot be ruled out,” she stated.

Mamata Banerjee further remarked that the incident reflects a worrying lack of security in the country. “Today, no one is truly safe—not even leaders of political parties, and especially those in the opposition,” she said.

Her statement has intensified the political debate surrounding the plane crash, with growing calls from various quarters for an independent and high-level investigation into the circumstances that led to Ajit Pawar’s death.
