New Delhi/Washington DC: Parliamentarian Milind Deora was recently in the United States as part of a broader diplomatic outreach mission under the All-Party Parliamentary Delegation (APPD), reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The high-level delegation toured multiple countries including the US, Panama, Guyana, Brazil, and Colombia in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent "Operation Sindoor" — India’s strategic initiative to strengthen global cooperation on counter-terrorism and regional security.

During his US visit from June 3 to 5, Milind Deora actively engaged in Track-2 diplomacy, holding informal yet meaningful interactions with several prominent American personalities and long-standing family acquaintances.

Among those he met were President Donald Trump’s sons — Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, who, Deora noted, “have a genuine fondness for India.”

In another key meeting, Deora connected with Robert F. Kennedy Jr., current US Secretary of Health and Human Services, along with his wife Cheryl Hines and their family. Reflecting on the deeply personal connection, Deora shared that his late father, Murli Deora, was inspired to enter public life after meeting Robert Kennedy Sr. shortly before his assassination in 1968. As a tribute, Murli Deora had carried a bust of Kennedy from India to present to him — a symbolic gesture reflecting his admiration.

In Washington DC, Deora also had the opportunity to meet Second Lady of the United States, Usha Vance, at an event hosted by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), on whose board he currently serves. He described her as “gracious and impressive,” highlighting the value of personal diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations.

These engagements underline the growing importance of Track-2 diplomacy in India’s foreign policy approach — leveraging personal ties and informal channels to enhance mutual trust and strategic cooperation, especially with long-standing partners like the United States.
