Mumbai Metro Aqua Line Breaks Down Again
Mumbai: A busy Friday morning in Mumbai turned difficult for thousands of commuters after a technical fault disrupted services on Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line. The interruption occurred during peak office hours, bringing underground train operations to a halt for nearly 40 to 50 minutes.
This marks the second significant breakdown on the 33.5-kilometre corridor connecting Cuffe Parade in south Mumbai to Aarey JVLR in the northern suburbs. Earlier on May 6, operations were suspended after a fire incident was reported at the T2 Airport station, raising fresh concerns over reliability.
As trains stopped suddenly, platforms at several stations became overcrowded. Many commuters complained about a lack of announcements or updates from authorities. Passengers reported being stuck inside trains and on platforms without clarity on when services would resume, leading to frustration and confusion.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited later confirmed that both up and down line services were affected due to an unspecified technical issue. Officials stated that the problem had been rectified and normal operations restored, though details of the fault and exact downtime were not disclosed.
The repeated disruptions have raised concerns among daily commuters who depend on the Aqua Line for faster travel across the city. The corridor, still in its early phase of operations, has now witnessed multiple interruptions within a short span.
Meanwhile, the city’s metro network continues to expand. With the recent inauguration of Metro Lines 9 and 2B earlier this year, Mumbai now operates six metro lines, aiming to improve connectivity across suburban and central regions.
