New Delhi: The Government has revamped the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Alok Joshi, a former Chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), has been appointed as the Chairman of the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB).

Six more members have also been inducted into the Board.

Alok Joshi: A Profile

Alok Joshi is currently appointed as the Chairman of National Security Advisory Board (NSAB).

He was Chief of Research and Analysis Wing, the external intelligence agency of India.

Alok Joshi hails from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He has done his graduation from Jawaharlal Nehru University, (JNU) and completed his Postgraduation in Political Science.

He joined the Indian Police Service (IPS), Haryana cadre in 1976.

Alok Joshi in 2005 became the joint director of Intelligence Bureau, the internal intelligence agency of India.

In 2010 he was appointed as a Special Secretary at R&AW. He took over as Secretary (R) on 30 December 2012.

Alok Joshi and Amitabh Mathur of 1977 batch of Manipur and Tripura, IPS cadre were the main contendants for the top spot. Mathur had joined R&AW in 1981 and switched from IPS to RAS cadre.

The Prime Minister-headed Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (India) chose Joshi over Mathur because of his seniority.

What Is NSAB

The principal function of National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) is to undertake long term analysis and to provide perspectives on the national security issues to the NSC and to recommend measures/solutions and policy options on the issues referred to it by the National Security Council.

The National Security Advisory Board (NSAB) is a multi-disciplinary body comprising persons of eminence form outside government with the principal function of providing long-term analysis to the National Security Council and recommending solutions and policy options to the issues raised by them.
