New Delhi: The Election Commission has made major revisions to the design and printing style of EVM ballot papers to make the election process more transparent and simple. The EVM ballot paper will now include a color photo along with the candidate's name and election symbol. This new rule will come into effect from the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. This amendment has been made to Rule 49B of the Conduct of Elections Rules, 1961.

Candidate's color photo will now be clearly visible on EVM ballot papers. Three-quarters of the photo will reflect the candidate's face, allowing for easy identification. This change will facilitate voter identification of candidates and reduce the likelihood of incorrect voting. This step is an important initiative towards making the election process more transparent.
Candidate and NOTA numbers on the ballot will be printed in the international form of Indian numerals. The font size will be 30 points and bold, making it easier to read. The names of all candidates and NOTA will be in the same font type and size, ensuring a uniform and clear ballot.
70 GSM quality paper will be used for printing ballots. For the Assembly elections, special RGB pink paper will be used, which will be of better quality than before, making the ballots durable and clear.

This new system will be implemented first in the Bihar Assembly elections. The Election Commission aims to successfully implement it and then adopt it across the country. This will increase voter awareness and bring transparency to the electoral process.
