Supreme Court hearing leads to major update as CJP withdraws its planned Delhi march (Img: X)
New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has withdrawn its proposed September 5 protest march in Delhi after the Centre gave assurances before the Supreme Court regarding the demands raised by the organisation, including compensation for families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide.
CJP spokesperson Saurav Das informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the outfit was calling off the march in view of the government’s commitments and the court’s intervention.
“Considering the positive assurances given by the Government of India and the judicial order being passed today, CJP deems it appropriate to withdraw the call for the September 5 march,” Das told the court.
During the hearing, the Centre assured the Supreme Court that families of NEET aspirants who died by suicide following alleged irregularities related to the examination process would receive compensation.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, told the court that compensation would be provided to the affected families within three months.
The assurance came after CJP had accused the government of not fulfilling commitments made earlier on July 25.
On August 24, the CJP had announced a peaceful march from India Gate to Delhi Police Headquarters on September 5, demanding action on issues related to NEET paper leak allegations and support for affected students and families.
The organisation had planned the protest citing delays in implementing earlier assurances.
The Supreme Court had earlier refused to stop the proposed march, stating that maintaining law and order was the responsibility of the Centre and Delhi government.
The court had also emphasised that all parties should maintain peace and follow legal procedures while expressing their concerns.
Following the Centre’s latest assurance and the court’s remarks, CJP decided to cancel the planned demonstration.
