Who is legal custodian of the temple
Ayodhya: The much-awaited moment has finally arrived in Ayodhya, when the Dharmadhwaj will be hoisted on the top of the Ram Temple. The construction of the grand temple is now completely complete, and today, the sacred flag, glowing with saffron aura, will be hoisted on its summit. This Dharmadhwaj on the Ram Temple is not only a symbol of faith, but also a sign of the pride and rich tradition that Ayodhya has cherished for centuries. Let us find out who the real owner of the Ram Temple is and to whom all the money coming here goes.
Who is the owner of the Ram Temple?
The Ram Temple in Ayodhya is not only a center of faith but has become the largest pilgrimage site, a source of faith and donations for millions of devotees.
But who is the legal owner of this massive temple, who maintains it, and to whom does the billions of rupees coming here ultimately go? These questions continue to interest people.
In its historic verdict, the Supreme Court recognized Ram Lalla Virajman, the child form of Lord Ram, as the true legal owner of the disputed Ram Temple land. The court delivered this decision after extensive hearings, which concluded that the land has been part of Ram Lalla's legacy for centuries.
Although Ram Lalla is the legal owner, the entire responsibility for the temple's maintenance and construction rests with the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, established by the Government of India in February 2020. This trust oversees everything from the temple's management to the handling of donations.
Who receives all the money?
Every donation, large or small, received for the Ram Temple is deposited directly into the trust's bank accounts. Donors range from ordinary devotees to large companies. Some donate directly in cash, while others offer precious items like gold and silver.
These donations are recorded in a highly transparent manner. Several donation counters have been set up within the temple complex, issuing receipts. The withdrawal process from donation boxes is jointly overseen by State Bank of India officials and trust members.
Accounting for Every Penny Donated
As of March 2023, the Trust had over ₹3,000 crore deposited in its various bank accounts. Of this, over ₹1,000 crore has been spent on the temple's construction. The remaining funds are being used for temple maintenance, security, future expansion, and religious activities. The Trust has consistently maintained that every penny donated is used appropriately and all transactions are recorded.
In short, while the temple legally belongs to Ram Lalla, its maintenance, development, and financial management are entirely in the hands of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
