New Delhi: The stage is set for the counting of votes in the Assembly elections across West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, and the Union Territory of Puducherry, scheduled to begin tomorrow morning under extensive security and monitoring arrangements.

In Assam, authorities have finalized preparations across 40 counting centres spread over 35 districts. The results will determine the electoral fate of 722 candidates, including 59 women. The state recorded a notable voter turnout of 85.96% during polling held on April 9.

In West Bengal, counting will take place at 77 centres with multi-layered security protocols to ensure transparency and order. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has deployed over 10,500 personnel for counting duties, supported by more than 4,600 micro-observers. Each of the 234 Assembly constituencies will be supervised by a designated observer to ensure strict compliance with Election Commission guidelines.

In Puducherry, officials have implemented comprehensive arrangements, including strong security and real-time monitoring systems. Chief Electoral Officer P Jawahar stated that the counting process will be conducted transparently under the supervision of observers appointed by the Election Commission of India.

Similarly, Kerala has completed all preparations to ensure a smooth counting process.

Exit Poll

  • Puducherry: Exit polls suggest an edge for the BJP-led NDA in the 30-member Assembly, with the Congress-DMK alliance trailing.
  • Kerala: A closely contested race is expected between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF), with slight projections favoring the UDF but leaving room for surprises.
  • Assam: Most exit polls indicate that the BJP is likely to retain power, maintaining a comfortable lead over the Congress.
  • Tamil Nadu: The DMK-led alliance is seen in a competitive contest against the AIADMK-BJP alliance, while the entry of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has added a new dimension. Poll predictions remain divided.
  • West Bengal: A high-stakes battle between the All India Trinamool Congress and the BJP has kept political tensions high. Exit polls point to a tight contest, with some even predicting a hung Assembly in the 294-member House. Key constituencies such as Bhabanipur, Nandigram, and Bhangar are expected to draw significant attention.

With all eyes on the results, tomorrow’s counting is set to shape the political landscape across these crucial regions.
