New Delhi: The monsoon has once again intensified across several parts of India, bringing major changes in weather conditions from the plains to the hilly regions. Rainfall began early Sunday morning in Delhi-NCR and parts of Uttar Pradesh, accompanied by strong winds and cloudy skies.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow alerts for heavy rainfall across several states, including Delhi-NCR and parts of North and Central India.
Dark clouds covered Delhi and nearby areas such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad since morning. Strong winds and rainfall activity are expected to continue, bringing relief from humid weather conditions and causing a drop in temperatures.
Authorities have advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open spaces due to the risk of lightning strikes.
The weather department has predicted heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in around 25 states, including:
Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland.
The impact of the weather system is expected to be stronger in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, where several districts are likely to receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms.
Officials have warned of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas and flood-like conditions in vulnerable regions.
Meanwhile, continuous rainfall has increased difficulties in hilly states such as Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
Heavy showers have raised concerns over landslides, land subsidence and road blockages. Several highways and connecting roads have been affected due to falling rocks, disrupting movement of tourists and local residents.
The Disaster Management authorities have advised people living near rivers and streams to shift to safer locations if required. Tourists have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel to mountain regions during the period of heavy rainfall.
