Supreme Court cancels Sushil Kumar's bail
New Delhi: The Supreme Court orders Sushil Kumar to surrender himself in within a week after canceling his bail. In a murder case the Supreme Court revoked Sushil Kumars bail and ordered him to turn himself in within a week. The murder of wrestler Sagar Dhankar has been charged against Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar.
The Delhi High Court granted him bail. Sagar Dhankar a young wrestler and his friends were killed by Sushil Kumar on 4 May 2021 in the parking lot of Delhi's Chhatrasal Stadium due to a property dispute. During the course of treatment the victim passed away. Sunil has been taken into custody by the police for the murder.
A bench consisting of Justice Sanjay Karol and Prashant Kumar Mishra overturned the Delhi High Court March 4 bail decision for Kumar. As Justice Karol read the majority of the ruling he granted Sagar's father plea against the bail order.
Kumar must turn himself in within a week the judge ruled. Following his release on bail Sushil Kumar resumed his duties with Northern Railway however he is now required to turn himself in within seven days or face jail time.
Ashok Dhankar the deceased father was represented in the Supreme Court by senior advocate Siddharth Mridul while Sushil Kumar was represented by senior advocate Mahesh Jethisani.
Sagar Dhankar was a junior National wrestling champion
The case pertains to the murder of former junior national wrestling champion Sagar Dhankar. Wrestler Sushil Kumar, along with his friends, had beaten up Sagar on the night of May 5. Later on Sagar passed away. In addition four other wrestler suffered injuries. The case involves thirteen accused parties.
The post-mortem report stated that Dhankars injuries caused his death. The Olympian was arrested following an 18-day run through Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana as a result of the incident which sparked a massive manhunt. When he arrived to pick up the money on a scooty that he had borrowed from a national-level athlete the Delhi Police arrested him in the Mundka area. Sushil was placed in judicial custody following his arrest on May 23 2021 and his railway job was suspended until he received his bail order.
Among other offenses the Delhi Police had filed a formal complaint against the defendant for murder attempted murder culpable homicide that did not qualify as murder criminal conspiracy kidnapping dacoity and rioting.
Additionally a case-related video that showed Sushil and his friends beating some people had come to light.
