Toxic smog chokes Delhi-NCR
New Delhi: A layer of fog and smog has enveloped the NCR, including the national capital and the air quality has been recorded in the "very poor" category.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's average air quality index (AQI) at 7 am on Thursday was recorded at 300, which falls in the very poor category.
Air quality remains at dangerous levels in many areas of the capital even today. The AQI was recorded at 318 in Anand Vihar, 284 in Alipur, 343 in Bawana, 312 in Burari, 331 in Chandni Chowk, 324 in Dwarka, 257 around Delhi Airport, 304 in ITO, 342 in Jahangirpuri, 343 in Rohini, 319 in Vivek Vihar, 343 in RK Puram, 302 in Narela and 340 in Mundka. Earlier, on Wednesday, the average AQI of the capital in 24 hours was recorded at 342.
On the other hand, today the AQI was recorded at 265 in Noida Sector-62, 355 in Vasundhara in Ghaziabad, 291 in Indirapuram, 210 in Gurugram Sector-51, 239 in Vikas Sadan and 198 in Faridabad Sector-30.
According to CPCB standards, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.
