New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP and Padma Shri awardee senior advocate Ujjwal Nikam delivered a speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on a crucial issue—accountability of UN officials for crimes.
The speech took place in New York on October 10, 2025, and he presented India's clear and firm position on ethics, transparency, and accountability at the global level.
In his address, Ujjwal Nikam stated that if UN officials commit crimes, it is not only a violation of the law but also a serious blow to the credibility and reputation of the UN.

He emphasized that ignoring such crimes undermines public trust in the organization. Nikam suggested that both the UN and its member states should jointly take strict action against such crimes.

Referring to India's "Zero Tolerance" policy, he stated that India does not tolerate any form of misconduct or unethical behavior.
In his speech, he also urged that the United Nations should increase its financial contribution to the fund established to assist victims.
India has always played an active role in advocating for human rights and justice, and Nikam carried forward that tradition and strengthened India's image internationally.
Ujjwal Nikam is in New York as a key member of a high-level Indian parliamentary delegation. This delegation is meeting with permanent representatives of various countries to advance India's foreign policy and diplomatic priorities.
He held important discussions with the Permanent Representatives of Jamaica and France, as well as with policy experts from the International Crisis Group.
The aim of these meetings was to further strengthen India's role in global crisis management and peacebuilding.
A key aspect of this visit was to strengthen India's technology leadership role and relations with the Indian Diaspora.
Nikam met with India's Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Amandeep Singh Gill, to discuss topics such as artificial intelligence (AI) governance and digital public infrastructure.
In addition, he interacted with over 90 Indian-American community leaders and commended their contributions to strengthening the US-India partnership.
He made it clear that India is committed to playing a leading role in promoting transparency, accountability, and justice in the global community.
