VHP protests in Delhi over Bangladeshi Hindu Dipu Chandra death

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) held a protest in Delhi against the murder of Hindu youth Deepu Chandra in Bangladesh. The protesters demanded justice for the victim’s family and security for Indian students stranded in Bangladesh.

New Delhi: Activists of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) protested in Delhi today on Tuesday against the killing of Hindu youth Deepu Chandra in Bangladesh. The main objective of the protest was to demand justice for the victim's family and to call for the safety of Indian students, especially medical students, stranded in Bangladesh. The protest began at 11:00 AM outside the Bangladesh High Commission.

Bangladesh summons Indian High Commissioner

The Bangladeshi Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Indian High Commissioner over the incident. This is the second time this month that the High Commissioner has been summoned. The Ministry stated that relations between the two countries have become strained following the incident. Anti-India protests have occurred in Bangladesh before, including those related to the death of Sharif Osman Hadi.

Protest also took place two days earlier

On December 20, a small and peaceful protest was held outside the Bangladesh High Commission in Delhi. Only 20-25 young people participated. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the protest did not pose any threat to the security of the High Commission. The protest was solely to demand justice and express sympathy for the victim's family.

Demand for justice in Bangladesh as well

On December 22, Hindu organizations and minority groups protested against Deepu's killing in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka. The protesters said that Deepu was innocent and falsely accused of blasphemy. He was beaten, hanged from a tree, and burned alive by extremists. The protesters claimed that more than 50 non-Muslims have been killed in Bangladesh since January of this year.

Murder resulted from a factory dispute

Deepu Chandra Das was 27 years old and a floor manager at a garment factory called Pioneer Knitwears (BD) Limited. A dispute had been ongoing at the factory. On December 18, the argument escalated, and the factory floor in-charge forced Deepu to resign. He was then taken outside the factory and handed over to a mob.
