Rampur: A deadly accident occurred in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday, December 28, when a hay-laden truck toppled onto a Bolero vehicle, claiming the life of the driver. The crash took place near Pahadi Gate, close to the local power house, on a busy stretch of the highway. The incident caused major traffic disruption and was captured on CCTV, with the footage now going viral on social media.
The Bolero involved in the accident belonged to the Sub-Divisional Officer of the electricity department. The driver, 54-year-old Firasat, a resident of Gujar Tola in the Ganj police station area, died instantly. He was returning home after dropping the SDO at the Khoud substation around 4:30 PM when the incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses and police reports suggest that Firasat began turning the Bolero at a highway cut near Pahadi Gate without noticing the approaching hay-laden truck. The truck driver tried to avoid a collision by steering towards the central divider, but the front wheel mounted the divider, causing the truck to tilt. It scraped the Bolero and eventually fell completely onto it, crushing the vehicle.
CCTV footage shows the Bolero turning while the truck follows closely behind. As the Bolero moves across the road, the truck swerves to avoid it but loses balance, tilting and landing on the SUV. Rescue personnel described the Bolero as barely recognisable under the truck, with Firasat trapped inside and suffering fatal injuries.

Emergency teams rushed to the site using four cranes, two bulldozers, and a JCB machine. It took about thirty minutes to lift the truck and reach the trapped Bolero. Traffic on Delhi-Nainital Highway 87 was stalled for nearly three hours, with vehicles backed up for around two kilometres. Authorities diverted traffic through alternate routes while partially restoring highway movement.
The horrific footage circulated online, sparking strong reactions. Many blamed the Bolero driver for not checking mirrors, while others highlighted the need for stricter driver training, proper lane discipline, and traffic enforcement. Users also pointed out the dangers of staying close to trucks and making wide turns on busy roads.
Authorities confirmed Firasat had been driving the SDO’s Bolero and did not notice the approaching truck. Superintendent of Police Vidyasagar Mishra supervised the clearance operation. The truck driver fled the scene and a search is underway. Firasat’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and the truck has been taken to the police station for investigation.
