The weather has changed just before the holy festival of Janmashtami in India. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of the country on August 16, 2025. According to weather experts, the monsoon has become active again in North, South, East, and Northeast India, which may affect the upcoming festivals, including Janmashtami.

Heavy rain alert in North India

North Indian states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir are expected to receive heavy rains on August 16. IMD has issued an orange alert, especially for the Dehradun, Nainital, and Bageshwar districts of Uttarakhand, while a yellow alert is in force in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, and Pauri. Strong winds at a speed of 40-50 km/h, lightning, and torrential rains are likely in these areas.

Delhi weather: Humid heat with rain

The minimum temperature in the capital, Delhi, is likely to be 27.2 degrees Celsius, and the maximum temperature is 28.5 degrees Celsius. However, the average temperature of the day can reach 32.2 degrees, which will keep the feeling of humidity. Apart from this, winds are expected to blow at a speed of 9.8 kilometers per hour from the east-southeast (ESE) direction. Light rains may occur in some areas along with strong winds and thunderstorms, which may hamper festive preparations.

Active monsoon in central and south India too

Monsoon activities are continuing in areas like Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Vidarbha in central India. At the same time, heavy rains have also been predicted in the states of South India like Maharashtra, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Karnataka. Intermittent rain is also expected to continue in northeastern states like Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Vigilance is necessary in the festive season.

IMD has advised citizens and the administration to remain vigilant during this festive season. Life may be affected in case of heavy rains, strong winds, and waterlogging. The department has appealed to the organizers to plan the programs only after taking the latest information about the weather so that any untoward incident can be avoided.

On the occasion of Janmashtami, the weather conditions across the country remain unstable. In such a situation, people should pay serious attention to the warnings of the Meteorological Department and take necessary precautions. Especially people traveling should keep an eye on weather updates so that any unexpected situation can be dealt with.
