Weather: Heavy rainfall predicted in Punjab, Haryana for next 3-4 days

Chandigarh: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that heavy downpour will continue over Punjab and Haryana for the next three-four days, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The Weather Office has said that massive rainfall is expected in various districts in the two states. Several places are already reeling under excess rains.

Surinder Paul, Head of the IMD Chandigarh said that keeping in view the weather cycles it is indicated that widespread rainfall in North and West Punjab as well as North and South Haryana will continue for next three-four days.

Paul said, "There is a chance of heavy rainfall at a few places in North Punjab today, while parts of Western Punjab will also receive moderate to heavy showers. Monsoon activity will continue in both Punjab and Haryana for the next three to four days. Even if rainfall amounts reduce, the situation may worsen because both states are already facing excess rains."

In Punjab

Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Sangrur, Mansa and Moga are some of the districts which have faced above normal rainfall during this monsoon season. These districts had eight to nine times more than the average rainfall resulting in flood-like situation in many areas.

Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Rupnagar, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Sangrur, Mansa, Bathinda, Ferozepur, and Fazilka along with adjoining districts of Haryana may also face continuing rainy situation.

Gradual Decline

However IMD Chandigarh has forecast that rainfall is expected to gradually decline after September 2. At the same time another spell of monsoon showers may revive in the second half of September, particularly around September 18 to 20.

In Haryana

There is a yellow alert for rain in Ambala, Yamunanagar, Mewat and Palwal tomorrow. There is a possibility of 25 to 50 percent rain in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar, Bhiwani, Jind, Kaithal, Karnal, Kurukshetra and 50 to 75 percent rain in Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Panipat, Sonipat, Rohtak, Charkhi Dadri, Jhajjar, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Gurugram, Faridabad, Mewat and Palwal.

There is a yellow alert for rain in 16 districts Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat, Jhajjar, Rewari, Gurugram, Faridabad, Mewat and Palwal on Sunday. There is a possibility of 75 to 100 percent rain in Sonipat, Jhajjar, Rewari, Gurugram, Faridabad, Mewat and Palwal. There will be light rain in the remaining districts. A yellow alert for rain has been issued in 15 districts on Monday.
