New Delhi: Residents of Delhi are likely to experience relief from the intense heat as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by light rain across several parts of the city on Tuesday. The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for multiple districts, urging people to stay cautious and updated about changing weather conditions.

According to the IMD, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds ranging between 30-40 kmph are expected over the next few hours. Wind speeds may occasionally reach up to 60 kmph in some areas.

The yellow alert has been issued for New Delhi, Central Delhi, South Delhi, Southwest Delhi, West Delhi, Northwest Delhi, East Delhi, and Southeast Delhi districts. A yellow alert indicates the need to remain aware of possible weather-related disruptions.

Delhi witnessed a warm start to the day, with Safdarjung recording a minimum temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius, which is 2.2 degrees above the seasonal average.

Other parts of the city also reported above-normal temperatures. Lodi Road recorded 26.4 degrees Celsius, while Ayanagar logged 26.7 degrees Celsius. Ridge recorded 25.6 degrees Celsius, slightly below normal, and Palam registered 25.5 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature in the national capital is likely to hover around 35 degrees Celsius during the day.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the “moderate” category. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 157 at 9 am.

As per CPCB standards, an AQI between 101 and 200 falls under the “moderate” category.
